For the M1000 Raden Black Infinity, sections of shells selected from the colorful abalone green colored mother of pearl shell were smoothed and cut into rectangular shapes by hand. The first step is to paint the surface of the fountain pen in black by using urushi lacquer. In the next step the stripes are fixed to the cap and barrel by a coating of lacquer. Several coats of paint are applied, each of them must dry and harden completely before the next coating is applied. Between the finishing steps, the lacquered surface of the fountain pen is polished repeatedly.
A subtle silver sparkle can be seen on the black urushi lacquer. This effect is achieved by sprinkling fine sterling-silver powder. Finally, the master artist individually signs and numbers each fountain pen by using Maki-e technique.
The motif is reminiscent of a chessboard pattern and has no beginning or end on the round body of the fountain pen, hence the name Infinity. It is a lucky design that stands for long-lasting family happiness, positive development, and professional success.
