The samurai were legendary warriors in the service of the warlords to whom they owed allegiance. Still today, the name “Samurai” represents honor and beauty.
They dedicated their lives to fulfilling the “bushido”, a strict code that demanded loyalty and dignity until death. They were required to be upright, courageous, good, sincere, respectful and modest and to be able to control themselves in any situation. Implacable warriors, they imagined that they would die in combat in the prime of their lives. For this reason, they were identified with the fragile and ephemeral beauty of the cherry blossom, which falls from the tree before withering.
Combining strength and beauty, samurai wore magnificent armor that gave them protection and symbolized their rank. The color of his armor and the richness of his helmet were essential. The “mon” or family crest was often engraved on the helmet. Japanese armor was objects of absolute beauty. Artisans used all their talent to create armor and swords (katanas) whose beauty was only matched by their deadly effectiveness. The samurai believed that each sword housed a divine spirit.
The exceptional work in precious metals and lacquer intimately links the samurai with the house of S.T. dupont. The ST Dupont Samurai Limited Edition is a tribute to the greatness of spirit of these fighters, taking inspiration from the splendor and sophistication of their swords. With the same strength and finesse, this limited edition features decorative elements based on the swords of these fearsome warriors.
Items are embossed with the katana hilt ornament and finished in gloss midnight blue lacquer. Blue, a widely used color in Japanese art, is enhanced with hints of dark maroon symbolizing noble blood. The decoration also includes silver leather pads marked with the effect of snake skin that symbolize the power and agile character of the samurai. The lighter has an ornament inspired by helmets (kabutos). For its part, the pen is enhanced with a fist that evokes swords. Finally, a maroon cloth band faithfully reproduces the knot on the katana hilt. It is a limited edition of 888 units, a number considered to be lucky in Asia. Like a seal, the shield of a samurai clan (mon) distinguishes each product.
