LIMITED EDITION Maki-e “Ivy and Komon”
Maki-e is a very complex Japanese lacquering technique, famous for its beauty and artistry. In the process, the distinctive Japanese Urushi lacquer is applied to the fountain pen in a multitude of layers that are repeatedly polished. The design is drawn with colored lacquer on the surface. This technique is called Togidashi-Maki-e. Additionally, the artist mixes charcoal powder and gold powder into the lacquer, so that the design of the drawing rises above the surface:
If you slide your thumb over the paint, you will notice the relief. It is the so-called Taka-Maki-e technique.
For the Pelikan “Ivy and Komon” fountain pen model, the Maki-e artist has harmoniously mixed both techniques.
The limited edition “Ivy and Komon” shows the climbing plant Ivy combined with Komon which is a very beautiful and traditional motif.
Evergreen ivy is often talked about in poems for its bright, beautiful autumn leaves, and was often used as decoration, covering the exterior walls of buildings.
The so-called Komon is one of the traditional motifs of Japanese kimonos in which the same motif is dyed repeatedly in the same direction. The “Ivy and Komon” maki-e fountain pen has bright orange ivy covering the fountain pen and, in combination with the Komon motifs, represents a beautiful autumn.
With decades of experience, the famous M1000 Souverän model is manufactured in Germany and decorated in Japan.
The “Ivy and Komon” model is a masterpiece with a finely crafted 18K gold nib accented with rhodium decoration, in nib size M. Each pen is individually signed by the artist.
The “Ivy and Komon” Maki-e fountain pen is launched in a limited edition of only 123 pieces worldwide. Each piece is presented in an exclusive traditional Japanese paulownia wood gift box.
