Being made available for the first time outside of Japan, the Pilot Custom Urushi RED Barrel features hand-finished Urushi lacquer over a resin body and is being produced in only very limited numbers.
It is provided with a solid gold 18k Pilot #30 two-tone nib in your choice of tipping size.
The Custom Urushi qualifies for our complimentary nib tuning services, which adjust pressure and ink flow to your own personal writing characteristics.
Combining classic Pilot style with a hand-applied Urushi finish, the new Custom Urushi red Barrel is particularly notable for its gold trim and flat-top design, which provides a distinctive contrast to the Yukari Royale Black Urushi produced by Namiki, Pilot’s artisanal offshoot.
The pen fills using Pilot’s convenient cartridge-converter system, which allows for the use of either Pilot brand cartridges or any bottled fountain pen ink when using the provided converter. Even better, the converter in this case is Pilot’s high-capacity CON-70 model, which gives this pen a capacity rivaling or surpassing that of many piston-filers.
This Pilot Custom Urushi lacquered ebonite fountain pen was created by maki-e artisans (kokkokai) in Japan. It features the Roiro Urushi technique in solid red. The pen has a broad two-tone 18kt gold large #30 nib. A Con-70 converter is included, but you can also use Pilot cartridges if you prefer. It comes packaged in a gift box.
Lacquering has been used in Japan for thousands of years. The Pilot Custom Urushi is crafted from Japanese ebonite and lacquered using only pure Urushi lacquer. Like their Namiki pens, Pilot uses a lacquering technique called Roiro, which requires substantial time and skill to create a uniform and mirror-like finish. Each Custom Urushi pen is lacquered, cured, and polished three times to create a beautiful quality result.
