The art of ivory carving

Mammoth ivory is no ordinary ivory. An expert in the field would recognize it almost instantly by its unique veins and by its density, between 20 and 25% above average.

As a consequence of having absorbed moisture for centuries by being buried in ice, this ivory must undergo a careful and delicate drying process that lasts between three and five years. Only then can it be cut, sharpened, turned and polished, a laborious process that requires exceptional skill that very few people possess. Jürgen Schott is undoubtedly one of the most specialized master craftsmen in this type of work.

As head of the ivory carvers association of the Odenwald region near Heidelberg, he specializes in the techniques that have produced the most outstanding works of art of the last 200 years.

Harmony in black and white

Like people we have a special affinity with certain individuals, there are certain materials that fit perfectly.

One of the materials that best suits ivory is ebony, known since ancient times as one of the noble woods of greatest value and beauty. The dark brown, practically black core of the wood makes the creamy white of ivory shine with its own light.

This combination finds a way to harmonize perfectly in the 2006 Special Edition fountain pen. A complex inlaying process makes delicately engraved ivory fragments fit into the ebony frame

Unmistakable quality

A careful and precise craftsmanship combined with the unique nature of the materials chosen for this occasion make each and every one of the 2006 Special Edition fountain pens unique and unrepeatable works of art. Its hand-crafted, two-tone 18-karat gold nib is available in writing lines F, M and B. All details are cared for to the utmost. While the solid spring clip provides secure attachment to garment pockets, the ivory-set platinum-plated stopper perfectly protects the plunger mechanism. The mammoth ivory in the cap of the fountain pen reveals its striking texture. On the inside appears
engraved the figure of a mammoth together with the initials of the master craftsman who made the piece.
