Fountain Pen Pelikan Toledo M710 Red
1.200,00€Precious artwork in Spanish style
The art of working with Damascus steel goes back thousands of years. It means that steel or iron objects are decorated by engraving a pattern into the surface. Next, a thin sheet of gold will be placed over the pattern and will be embossed deep into the material with the help of a little hammer. In order to show the newly filled pattern, the object will then be heated to approximately 800°C. By doing so, the steel surfaces will oxidize and turn black, while the gold starts to shine. This technique traveled with the Arabs into Spain and has been perfected throughout the centuries, particularly in the famous Spanish town Toledo. -
Fountain Pen Pelikan Ginko & Maple Leaves Maki-e
5.100,00€Ginko & Maple Leaves
Maki-e is a complex Japanese lacquer painting technique, renowned for its beauty and artistry. In the process, the rare Japanese lacquer Urushi is applied to the fountain pen in a multitude of layers which are polished repeatedly. The design is drawn with colored lacquer onto the surface. This technique is called Togidashi-Maki-e.
In addition, the artist can mix charcoal powder and gold powder into the lacquer, so that the pattern of the design is raised above the surface: If your thumb glides over the painting, you will feel the difference. This is the so-called Taka-Maki-e technique. For the Pelikan fountain pen model “Ginko & Maple Leaves”, the Maki-e artist has harmoniously blended both techniques.
The fountain pen “Ginko & Maple Leaves” shows the traditional autumn motifs of Japan – glittering leaves that look as if they have just twirled from the tree in the first autumn wind, with golden splashes of color that show this magnificent season and its warm sunlight at its best.
With the experience of decades, the famous model M1000 Souverän is made in Germany and decorated in Japan. The model “Ginko & Maple Leaves” is a masterpiece with a finely-chased 18 carat gold nib accentuated with a rhodium décor, in the nib size M. Each pen is individually signed by the artist. -
Fountain Pen Pelikan Maiko in Kyoto Maki-e
5.800,00€Maiko in Kyoto
In 794, the Japanese Emperor Kammu declared the transfer of the capital of Japan to a new city which he called Kyoto. It was the place of an impressive dynasty, where the common people also lead powerful lives. By the end of the 12th century, Kyoto had become the center of commerce and industry of Japan. After approximately seven hundred years of prosperity, Kyoto was reborn as a modern city, when the Meiji Emperor moved the capital to Tokyo. Present-day Kyoto is the sixth largest Japanese city, with a population of 1.5million. With its long history, Kyoto has many temples and shrines, along with other historical architecture, and flourishes as the most popular Japanese tourist attraction.
A Maiko is a young apprentice who trains in arts and customer service manners. In the old days, girls started out as Maikos between the ages of 9 to 12, though the lower age limit has now been raised to after graduation from junior high school. Young and in the apprentice status, a Maiko wears a furisode, a long-sleeved kimono for unmarried women, adjusted at the shoulders and hemmed up. Due to the flashy outfit of lacquered clogs with rounded soles and dangling sash, a Maiko is now said to be the epitome of beauty for young Japanese women.
The Pelikan Maki-e fountain pen “Maiko in Kyoto” depicts a graceful Maiko, standing on a stone pavement in falling cherry blossom petals with the historical five-storied pagoda of Kyoto in the background. It takes up the theme of Maiko, one of the symbols of the ancient capital of Kyoto. -

Fountain pen Pelikan Fire limited edition to 500 pieces
1.800,00€Fire
The third fountain pen in the series “Achievements of Civilisation” celebrates the art of taming fire. The two previous models were “Evolution of Script” (2007) and “Calculation of Times” (2008).The most important motif is the bowl filled with fire. History tells us that in former times, our ancestors had to wait for lightning to strike before they could ‘catch’ the flames. They filled skulls with oil in order to preserve the special flames that gave warmth, kept wild beasts at bay and helped to prepare food. Today, fire is just a match away, but to celebrate this achievement of civilisation, the bowl of fire is depicted on the clip, the especially created nib, and the cap.
The barrel is made of brass and lacquered several times in a vivid red. Every flame on the barrel is first lasered, then plated with 24 carat gold. Five real Topaz gem-stones make the sparks come alive. The nib is made of 18 carat/750 gold and has an iridium grain at the tip. This Limited Edition is available in the nib sizes F, M, and B.
When burning wood, our forefathers learned to produce embers hotter than 500° Celsius (900° Fahrenheit) that were valuable for their survival. The limited edition “Fire” is dedicated to this ability and is restricted to 500 writing instruments worldwide. It was launched in August 2010.
The Limited Edition Fire is delivered in an elegant red gift box with a matching booklet that gives a delightful account of the theme and the intricate details of the fountain pen.
The “Fire” fountain pen has been released in the year 2010 and is limited to 500 pieces.

Fountain Pen Pelikan Hanging Gardens of Babylon L.E. 410 pieces
2.900,00€The Hanging Gardens of Babylon
A tribute to aesthetic appeal and technical skill
King Nebuchadnezzar II had the gardens constructed some 600 years before our calendar for his wife Amytis. She was to find a part of her green home of Persia amidst the desert-like region of Babylon and ancient writings tell us of an impressive new structure which was created and consisted of stepped terraces where exotic trees, shrubs, flowers and herbs grew. The immense garden itself required a sophisticated system to irrigate them with water from the Euphrates. The Hanging Gardens combined an aesthetic natural beauty and new sophisticated technology making this a true masterpiece. Inspired by this, the Pelikan fountain pen combines the utmost precision in manufacturing with traditional craftsmanship and artistic as well as technical skill. This distinctive writing instrument pays tribute and reflects this architectural wonder by incorporating a representation of the front of two steps of the ancient terraced structure. The backdrop reflected on the pen shows how the terraces were supported by columns and arched vaults. The representation of the stepped garden is once again depicted on the cap of this uniquely crafted fountain pen.
The Hanging Gardens of Babylon covered some 120 meters on both sides and the ascending stairway was separated in the form of a stepped slope according to what we learn from the historic accounts of the structure that was destroyed at an early stage. In the fourth century BC, the Babylonian priest Berossos is believed to have first described the gardens, based upon Babylonian documentation. His work has been lost, but chroniclers from the second century BC quoted from it and kept alive the knowledge of the magnificent gardens. This grand form of garden construction art would most likely have given the observer the impression of a hanging park and behind it all was a highly-developed level of technical understanding. It is probable that the walls and columns of the supporting structure were predominantly made of baked bricks and that there were passageways beneath the individual terraces. The substructure of each individual terrace is believed to have been fitted with pipes, natural asphalt, bricks and lead sheeting, so that water could not trickle down. The highest level tier consisted of fertile humus.
