Hand-painted using the Hira Maki-e technique. This technique is created by using several layers of coloured Urushi lacquer and raw lacquer which are then coated and sprinkles of gold powder and then burnished for a deep lustrous gloss. Namiki Yukari Royale Tabane-noshi (Noshi Bundle) Maki-e Fountain Pen
Noshi are long, thin strips of dried abalone used to wrap gifts after use in Shinto rituals. Today, it is used as a decorative accompaniment to gifts and presents on auspicious occasions. These abalone strips are a symbol of good luck known as Tabane-noshi (Noshi Bundle). This design elegantly depicts waves of multi-colored Noshi, bound together and flaring out.
The beautiful Night Scene of the Pavilion was created by togidashi-taka maki-e techniques, which consist of a burnished design in relief by applying a coat of lacquer, sprinkling with gold or silver powder, and drying with an additional coat of lacquer to set the powder. You’ll see impressive combinations of gold and silver dust are used throughout the pen artwork with the traditional black lacquer accented with a gold dust background.
