Montblanc Alexander von Humboldt Patron of the Art Series Limited Edition 4810 Fountain Pen

To this day, Alexander von Humboldt is considered the most prominent German naturalist and explorer and an influential patron of art and culture. Humboldt began traveling for many years, exploring the countries and cultures of South and Central America before returning to his homeland, where he made a name for himself as a philanthropist:he wrote letters of recommendation on behalf of contemporary artists such as Berlioz and Mendelssohn Bartholdy, which were of great importance in promoting their careers, and in 1842 he founded the”bourgeois”or”peace class”of the military order”Pour le Mérite”, which is still awarded for special services in science and the fine arts even today.

The cap and barrel of the Alexander von Humboldt Limited Edition are made of black grenadilla hardwood. Both the ornate inlaid work and the 925 sterling silver clip and fittings are an allusion to the traditional crafts of the native Indian people, whose culture Humboldt studied during his expedition to South America. The platinum-plated 18k gold nib is delicately engraved with a sextant – one of the tools that helped Humboldt rediscover and measure the world.
