Kaweco King Limited edition 2006 celluloid fountain pen stub

The new Kaweco “King” attracts above all with its solid and impressive senior size. Traditional design, perfect craftsmanship, perfectly balanced weight and of course celluloid as the base material characterize the “King”. The crown is essential as a visible sign of a noble writing instrument manufactured by Kaweco.

Material and technique

The cap, barrel and grip are made of celluloid. Only two factories in the whole world are still producing celluloid and in fact we can call it an extinction technique. Celluloid as a raw material must undergo a curing procedure of several months to avoid shrinkage of the final product. Each processing stage must be followed by another curing process.

The development and production of colors, patterns and designs is long and lavish. Each fountain pen is unique by its design. The elegant golden brown color harmonizes with the magnificent tactile sensation of celluloid.

The “crown” which follows the design of the 1925 original is cast in solid silver and plated with 18K gold. The clip is brass, the lever is steel and both are 18k gold plated.

The filling system works using a historic side lever. When the lever is pulled, a silicone bladder is compressed inside the barrel (body). By simultaneously dipping the tip into a bottle of ink and releasing the lever, a vacuum is created inside the bladder and the ink is soaked. This historic filling system was very famous around 1925.

We devote great attention to the production of King nibs and their sizes.

What good would the most beautiful fountain pen be if the nib is not perfect? The solid 18K gold nib has been manufactured by Peter Bock of Heidelberg, one of the last independent nib manufacturers worldwide producing this type of high quality nib.

The two-tone rhodium-plated 18-carat gold nibs stand out in nib size 6.

S = short tip

The Stub Nib has a 1.3mm wide flat tip. The Stub nib allows the user to create stroke variations depending on the writing angle. The Stub nib as a calligraphy nib is perfect for owners of characteristic writing and impressive signatures.
