DOCTOR, ADVENTURER AND PASSIONATE ABOUT NARRATIVE
Arthur Conan Doyle was born in Edinburgh in 1859. He studied medicine and worked as a doctor, but his great passion was narrative. His adventurous and exploring spirit led him to travel to places like the Arctic or Africa, where he served as a volunteer doctor in the Boer war. His most famous work is perhaps the one starring the famous private detective Sherlock Holmes, which includes sixty stories. But, the truth is that it has about two hundred creations between novels, short stories, poems, historical books and pamphlets. His chronicle of the Boer War denouncing the limitations of the British forces earned him a knighthood from King Edward VII for services rendered to the crown. In his last years – he died in 1930 – he showed great interest in the subject of spiritism, becoming an enthusiastic defender of this doctrine.
THE ENIGMATIC WAKE OF SHERLOCK HOLMES
The design of each of the editions of the new Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Writers Edition collection has found its greatest inspiration in the numerous stories starring the unmistakable detective Sherlock Holmes. But Montblanc’s master craftsmen didn’t stop at just that, they also drew on the extraordinary life of Arthur C. Doyle. Thus, the inclusion of the famous magnifying glass used so many times by the intrepid detective, so essential when solving any crime or mystery, which in all editions shapes the clip, is striking. On the other hand, the portrait of the famous writer appears engraved on the nibs of the four editions that make up the collection, together with a special element of the story corresponding to each edition.
