As one of the seven flowers of autumn, Bush Clover has been cherished in Japan since ancient times.
There are more than 100 poems dedicated to Bush Clover in “Man’yoshü,” the oldest surviving book of Japanese poetry compiled from the late 7th to late 8th centuries.
Bush Clover buds in the spring and reaches full bloom at the beginning of autumn.
Each fower is small and modest, with petals on the end of delicately arching stems that wave gently when the wind blows.
The Bush Clover symbols of “contemplation” and “Aexible spirit” arise from its gentle and unassuming beauty.
Bush Clover is also believed to have the power of exorcising evil spirits. Its trunk has been used to make chopsticks, and various parts of the plant are used in the five seasonal imperial ceremonies.
