From the darkness of the Middle Ages to the light of Modern Times, the Italian Renaissance was one of the most important factors in the development of Western civilization. The rediscovery of humanist values during Antiquity puts man back at the center of the universe: God does not is no longer the only guide, man becomes master of his destiny. In the architectural field, it was during the Renaissance that building buildings became an art: the architect “thinks” the project and draws the plans, he is no longer, as in the Middle Ages, only the one who carries out the work the representation of the human being to the rediscovery of perspective in painting, it is at the origin of a model of culture which lasted until the beginning of the 20th century. An artistic center of the Renaissance, Florence (Tuscany), a city of art par excellence, is home to some of the finest examples of Italian architecture and art.

The Florentine Filippo Brunelleschi 1377-1446), through his talents as an artist, as well as his qualities as an engineer, embodies this new spirit that manifests itself during the Renaissance. Its most famous achievement, the dome of the cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, erected between 1420 and 1436, is the eloquent symbol of this. Authentic technical prodigy, this dome characterizes the new style by its great clarity of volumes and simple proportions to which add closed and symmetrical shapes. This architecture is distinguished by pilasters and cornices of dark stone, which rise on surfaces covered with subtly colored plaster.

S.T.Dupont today pays homage to this masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance to create architectural objects with rich and sophisticated decorations combining meticulous goldsmith work with mastery of lacquer. The polychromy of the marbles and the spectacular marquetry work on the facades are taken up and enhanced by the geometry of the forms and the harmony of the colors: a contrasting mixture of dark green lacquer and marbled white lacquer. The presence of cornices on the lighters and the clock, the personalization of the ring of the pens, the decoration of the clip and the nib are the witnesses of this exceptional work of precision. The relief inlay of red Jasper, symbol of the Renaissance, recalls the bricks present on the entire dome: 10 on the table lighters, 14 on the Jeroboam and the clock as well as 6 and 7 on the ballpoint pen and the fountain pen, these stones create a warm and bewitching marriage of colors.
