2.500,00

Limited edition of only 1000 units! Omas dedicates this new limited edition “I Think” to the study of the evolution of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin and the 150th anniversary of the publication of “The Origin of Species”.

Darwin made his historic voyage aboard HMS Beagle in 1831-1836, which led to his decisive scientific discoveries in the Galapogos Islands.

The feather is adorned with engravings of the species whose various mutations led to Darwin’s theory: a mockingbird perches on the crown; Tracks of turtles, iguanas, lizards, flamingos, gannets and lizards “walk” through the clip. The cap ring is engraved with a DNA helix and four turns of thread surround the ends. Like the HMS Beagle itself, the body of the pen is crafted from natural oak.

When, in the early part of the 19th century during his long journey of exploration by sea, the great British scientist Charles Darwin started taking notes which he subsequently used in his treatise “ON THE ORIGIN OF SPECIES” on the evolution of living species, he wrote the words: “I think”.
OMAS is dedicating this Limited Edition to the words “I think” and to one of the fundamental stages of the study of the evolution of life in this the 200th anniversary of the author’s birth and the 150th anniversary of the book’s publication.
“I think” is an act of will which puts man at the centre of everything.
With a Limited Edition, OMAS underlines the fact that writing too is a fundamental aspect of the growth of civilization: it is with writing that thoughts take shape.
The parts of this pen made of precious jewels represent the voyage which Darwin made across the oceans aboard the British brig HMS Beagle, which saw him make his decisive scientific discoveries in the Galapagos Islands, located a thousand kilometres west of South America in the Pacific Ocean. The route taken by HMS Beagle is faithfully reproduced on the reservoir of the Limited Edition. The fine engraving is made using the “island” technique, performed with a hand-controlled pantograph, which allows extremely thin and accurate marks to be drawn, tracing the continents and a naval map dating from 1800. Looking at the pen through a magnifying glass, you can read text and see details which cannot be seen by the naked eye. It is painstaking work, which suggests how attention and research can discover things which are not apparently visible.
On the top of the cap a drawing of a mockingbird has been engraved: it was in fact the different varieties of this creature found in the different islands which suggested that the mutations had come about from a single original specimen. The same thing happened in the analysis of the other species whose footprints are reproduced on the clip: turtle, marine iguana, land iguana, lava lizard, flamingo, gannet and gecko.
On the ring of the cap is a design of the structure of “DNA”, the nucleic acid which contains genetic information, to represent the future after Darwin. Indeed, its discovery was the fruit of nearly a century’s work by other scientists in the wake of Darwin’s theories.
As well as showing the map of the journey and HMS Beagle, the body of the fountain pen is embellished with 4 twists of hawser, the cable used for docking ships.
Charles Darwin’s discoveries were also made thanks to his courage, effort, skill and generosity and those of the men who sailed with him from 1831 to 1836. They certainly experienced hard times but also other amazing times such as their arrival in the Galapagos Islands, still today a natural wonder accessible to few. The whole body of “I think” could not be made from anything other than oak. This was the wood used to make the sailing ships of the time and, thus, HMS Beagle itself.
The case is made of the same material and it reproduces the “standard bearer” of sailing ships of that time.
Once again progress came through the sea and its people.
The “I think” fountain pen is a top-quality writing tool created using the technology and great experience of OMAS, a company which has nearly completed its first century of existence.
“I think” Limited Edition is realized in three finishings: in sterling silver (the total number of pens, 1809, represents the year of Charles Darwin’s birth), 1.000 piston Fountain Pens, 809 Roller Ball pens; in gold 18K (the year formed by the two numbers, 1859, represents the year of publication of “On the Origin of Species”) 18 Roller Ball pens, 59 piston Fountain Pens; in rose gold and diamonds (the total represents Charles Darwin’s date of birth: 12 February 1809) 12 piston Fountain Pens.
